What does a technical writer do?
I work daily at Kongsberg Discovery AS in Horten, where I am responsible for user documentation and the website for the fisheries department (Simrad). The products I work with are technically advanced equipment for finding fish. These are sonars, echo sounders, transducers and catch control systems. I also work with similar equipment for fisheries research.
By education, I am originally an officer in the Navy. After completing my engineering studies at Horten College of Engineering and some studies at the University of Oslo, I started at Simrad in 1986. I have worked with technical documentation since 1989.
skriftlig.info was started to disseminate information and expertise on technical documentation. The first work on developing the pages was created as part of a master's degree in non-fiction writing with the University of South-Eastern Norway but has occasionally lain dormant due to other priorities.
